Information is handwritten in columns on preprinted pages which were later bound into volumes for each year. Monthly reports from each institution provide the following information: name of incarcerated individual; county where convicted; crime; court; judge; date of sentence; date received at prison; term; and remarks (such as previous prison terms).

This series consists of a legal document concerning resolution of territorial disputes regarding colonial charters and the Massachusetts line east of the Hudson River. Massachusetts claimed unlimited inland provisions according to the Massachusetts Bay Colony Charters of 1620 (Plymouth Charter) and 1628/29; and New York claimed grants based on provisions in the 1664 charter from King Charles II to his brother, James, Duke of York. The State Capitol fire of 1911 destroyed most of the information in this document.

The series consists of records of the commission which were compiled by its chief counsel and executive director, Roderick C. Lankler. The commission, commonly known as the "Liman Commission" after its chairman, Arthur L. Liman, was an advisory and fact-finding body appointed by Governor Carey to investigate prison overcrowding, jury selection reform, sentencing and parole laws and practices, and other aspects of the criminal justice system. The commission was discontinued shortly after Governor Mario M. Cuomo took office.

This series consists of two index volumes, the first of which lists license numbers of embalmers licensed to practice in New York State, and the second of which lists the same information for licensed undertakers. Both volumes are arranged alphabetically by first letter of surname, with names entered in order by ascending license number. In the index to licensed embalmers, names are occasionally annotated as "Deceased" and date of death is provided. Such annotations are not present in the index to licensed undertakers. Neither volume provides any further information regarding licensees.
