This series consists of resolutions of the military board, correspondence, memoranda, payment totals for the militia, bounty payment tables, vouchers, and warrants pertaining to the raising, equipping and paying of New York State's Militia during the first three years of the Civil War.
Many of the records in the series originated from the office of Colonel George Bliss, Jr., the paymaster general of the State Militia. These records deal mainly with the payment of bounties for troops raised and contain only summary data of sums requested and received. The resolutions, correspondence, memoranda, vouchers, and warrants are concerned with the financial aspects of providing for the state's militia.
