- This series documents the work of a temporary commission authorized to survey and determine the need for special services in the village of Saranac Lake and surrounding area for people with disabilities, particularly in relation to medical and educational services; occupational therapy; vocational guidance; training; and placement. The commission was also responsible for ascertaining whether state financial support for the operation and maintenance of schools or agencies furnishing services to people with disabilities was warranted. The commission submitted this report detailing their findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature in 1953.

- The Washington's Birthday Celebration Commission was a temporary state commission established to cooperate with the federal government in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. The bulk of the series consists of reports of the state commission and a variety of pamphlets, magazine articles, illustrations, and newspaper clippings about George Washington. Also included are scores of letters to the state commission from citizens from around New York who were born on February 22nd.
