- This series includes correspondence primarily between militia leaders and occasionally their subordinates. One can find a number of telegrams and letters addressed to Major General Josiah Porter in Albany, Governor Roswell P. Flower, and Brigadier Generals Peter Doyle and James McLeer. The content of these telegrams and letters centers on the mobilization of state militia troops at Buffalo, but many also contain descriptions of the chaos erupting in the city.

- Foreign-born prisoners accounted for nearly fifty-five percent of the prison population increase in the early twentieth century. Individual facilities gathered detailed information about their foreign-born inmates to document the increase and burden on the state. - These records contain abstracts of information originally included in deeds conveyed to purchasers of lands sold for unpaid taxes. The State Comptroller's Office was in charge of selling lands for unpaid taxes until 1926, when that function was assumed by the Department of Taxation and Finance. For each entry, information includes date of sale; sale amount; to whom deeded; description of property, including county and town, name of tract, number of acres, and description; and names of comptroller and deputy comptroller.

- In a case that played out over the course of a decade, the State of New York brought legal action against canal contractors Henry D. Denison, James J. Belden, A. Caldwell Belden, and Thomas Gale in an effort to recover money allegedly obtained through fraudulent means. This series consists of an incomplete set of handwritten stenographer's notes, a partial printed trial transcript, and printed copies of legal briefs filed in State Supreme Court and the State Court of Appeals. In the end, efforts by both sides to recover funds believed owed to them were unsuccessful.
