- The series consists primarily of legal and administrative files dealing with the two major recreational ski areas in Warren (Gore Mountain) and Essex (Whiteface Mountain) counties. The authority worked closely with the Conservation Department, and the records relate to the authority's continuation of development begun under preceding authorities and commissions and new development financed by a succession of legislative appropriations.

- This is an original typescript of an agreement among New York State, Albany County, and the City of Albany to undertake the cooperative public improvement project known as the South Mall (later Empire State Plaza). The project was devised to provide space for state offices and related facilities as part of a plan for development of the county and city, recognizing the clear effect of state government growth on the physical and economic development of the area.

A typical file contains original deeds describing the amount paid for the real property; exact description of property being conveyed; seller(s) and buyer(s); signatures of attorneys, county clerks, and notaries public; date recorded; book/liber number and page number; and a map depicting the property being conveyed. The files pertain exclusively to transactions that occurred in Oneida, Erie, Essex, Niagara, and Franklin counties.

- These records relate to work release programs for approximately sixty inmates during 1973 and 1974. Most of the records pertain to inmates in Bedford's Reformatory Division, although several pertain to inmates in the Prison Division. Inmate files include work release agreement; work release report; request for disbursement of funds; correspondence and memorandums relating to transportation, purchase of clothing, inability to work because of illness, etc.; and several black and white photographs of the inmate.

- Files in this series contain signed and sealed copies of interstate compacts and intergovernmental agreements entered into by the State of New York. Numerous compacts involve conservation and development of water resources shared by multiple states or by a combination of states and Canadian provinces. Particularly noteworthy is the earliest compact in the series. This compact, agreed to in 1921 by the states of New York and New Jersey, created the Port of New York District and established the Port of New York Authority (later Port Authority of New York and New Jersey).

- The series consists of regular and special meeting files of the Public Authorities Control Board (PACB), which regulates financing, bonding, property acquisition, and construction projects of major public authorities. Some of the records, including exhibits, draft resolutions, and summaries outlining financial implications of projects, were apparently prepared by staff for PACB members as background materials on pending applications. The records document the PACB's monitoring of projects undertaken by public authorities, as well as its decision-making process.

- The land appropriation files contain comprehensive legal documentation of the process by which the state acquired lands for the Barge Canal system (pursuant to Laws of 1909, Chapter 391, as amended), and of the state's title to those lands. The files document not only the transfer of legal title to the state (i.e. the deed), but also the title and lien history of the property, the negotiations with the landowner, and the review and approval by control agencies - Offices of the State Comptroller and Attorney General. All of this documentation is important for confirming that due process was observed and that the owner was justly, fairly compensated for the property taken by the state. In addition, the records thoroughly document an important government function, the appropriation of private property for a public purpose, in this case for the Barge Canal.

- The Comptroller was authorized to sell land scrip for establishing a land grant college. This series records the names of individuals who purchased land scrip. Entries include, date the transaction was recorded, purchaser's name, residence, number of pieces of scrip purchased, total number of acres purchased, purchase price and scrip numbers. Also included are copies of agreements and contracts and resolutions made between the state and Ezra Cornell. These entries mostly pertain to the purchase of unsold scrip by Cornell.
