They summarize petition arguments, give legal opinions, and occasionally suggest alternative courses of action in particular cases. Subjects include claims of heirs to estates; conveyances, claims, and disputes related to forfeited estates; and compensation for land lost to Vermont in the boundary dispute with New York. Records are in fragile condition due to burn damage.

- The series consists of sections of an undated printed colored U.S. Geological Survey topographic map of New York State, annotated to locate the areas covered by Barge Canal contracts. Each of the three canal divisions and the separate canals in each division were divided into residencies, with work in each residency done under the direction of a resident engineer or an assistant engineer in charge. Residency and contract numbers, and names of contractors are included.

- In March 1940 the Department of Public Works began a two-part Statewide Highway Planning Survey comprised of a Traffic Study and a Road Inventory. Public highway maps for each county were produced as part of the Road Inventory to facilitate the study of highway planning problems. This volume of printed maps was produced from data collected during this survey from 1940-1949. The volume contains maps for all counties except the five counties in New York City.

- This series documents the case of Nick Donald Bagley, who escaped from prison in Maryland after erroneously being found guilty of murder and serving most of a fifteen year sentence. Included in the series are papers that were issued for Bagley's return to Maryland from New York in 1973, pleas to allow Bagley to remain in New York in 1974, and the final decision issued in 1975 that resulted in the dismissal of the case.
