The Nassau County School Study was undertaken in 1951 and 1952 as a joint effort of the Education Department and local school officials under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Finance and School Administrative Services. It attempted to develop solutions to the problems caused by a rapid increase in the number of school-aged children in Nassau County during the late 1940s and early 1950s. The study examined and issued reports or memoranda on problems such as: the distribution of school-aged children; projected enrollment changes; reorganization of school districts; financial aid for rapidly growing districts; and long range planning for school facilities.
