Summary
- This series contains mostly warrants of survey but includes also a few unrelated legal documents. Colonial governors ordered surveys of all lands for which settlers applied for purchase. The warrants are the governor's orders to the surveyor general to carry out the survey. They provide name of governor; name of surveyor general; for whom land is to be surveyed; acreage and location of land; and date of warrant. The records suffered some burn damage in the 1911 State Capitol fire.

Summary
- A proposed State Prison at Albany was authorized to be built under Chapter 30 of the Laws of 1796. A Board of Commissioners was appointed, which was authorized to purchase a lot not exceeding four acres, and a number of the records concern the controversy over the purchase of that land. It was also authorized to submit warrants for the cost of building the state prison to the Treasurer, and these warrants were passed on by the Comptroller.

- The governor issued these warrants directing the attorney general to prepare letters patent. These patents transferred title to land from the colonial government to private owners whose application to purchase land had been approved following a survey. Each warrant contains governor's name; attorney general's name; size and boundaries of the land to be patented; and date of the warrant. These records sustained moderate to severe burn damage in the 1911 State Capitol fire.

- This series consists of copies of warrants issued by the Ulster County Treasurer, commanding the sheriff to levy arrears of taxes on lands and chattels of collectors of taxes in the various precincts of the county, and to imprison them unless the taxes were paid. Each warrant gives the sum of taxes due from the collector. There is also a letter of transmittal from Christopher Tappen, County Treasurer, to the State Treasurer.
