This series consists of warrants issued by the governor authorizing the treasury to pay specified sums to persons who provided goods or services to New York. The warrants are generally for routine expenditures such as: salaries for government officials and employees; travel expenses; or reimbursement for money or supplies provided to the government to help fortify the colony.
The warrants contain: the governor's name; the sum to be paid; the name of the person to be paid; purpose of the payment; the date; and treasurer's name (occasionally).
The series is composed of volumes 7, 10, 11, and 12 of the series of Miscellaneous Records described in Secretary of State J.V.N. Yates' 1820 report on the State Legislature. Volume 8 (1705-1719) and Volume 9 (1719-1732) of the warrants were destroyed in the 1911 fire at the State Capitol library and the four surviving volumes were subsequently disbound.
