The series consists of field books, notes, maps, and deeds relating to the Holland Land Company's lands in the western part of New York State. Records include the original field books from the surveys of 1798 and 1799, which provide a systematic survey of the Holland Land Purchase; field notes (journals) of the survey of township lines in various ranges; and original deeds for the lands of the Holland Purchase.

Survey and field notes of portions of the Allegany Indian Reservation

Summary
This series consists of copies of a dependent re-survey of portions of the boundary of the Allegany Indian Reservation and portions of the village lines within the reservation at Cattauragus County, New York. Included are two copies of a survey map and a forty-four page duplicate copy of associated field notes. The city of Salamanca is located on land leased from the Indians. These records probably relate to a dispute which occurred when the long-term lease of that property ended.

Verplanck Colvin maps of the Adirondack wilderness

Verplanck Colvin and his field assistants created this series using the field notes they compiled during their survey of the Adirondack wilderness of New York. The majority of the maps are topographical or cadastral maps and typically show elements of the natural and built environment (such as lakes, rivers, ponds, mountains, roads, and railroads) as well as names of property owners, lot numbers, and pertinent landmarks used in land surveying.

Legal documentation relating to lands conveyed to Commissioners of the Canal Fund

Summary
This series consists of deeds, mortgages, bonds, assignments and traced maps of lots in Buffalo. The land was conveyed to the Commissioners of the Canal Fund as collateral for two judgments against Thadeus W. Patchin, bankrupt, in 1874. In 1881 the Commissioners of the Canal Fund empowered the State Treasurer to settle or cancel back taxes on the Buffalo lots, and this series also contains taxes searches and related documents from this action.

American Super-Power Corporation license application maps and drawings

Summary
The American Super-Power Corporation submitted these exhibit maps and drawings to the Water Power Commission as part of a license application for a St. Lawrence River water power project. Action on this application was suspended in 1927 and superseded in 1930 by the creation of the St. Lawrence River Power Development Commission. Records include general maps, development maps, profile of the St. Lawrence River, views of power house, maps of proposed transmission lines, and land ownership maps.

Canal commissioners were required to construct and maintain road and street bridges over the enlarged Erie Canal and to construct farm bridges to accommodate landowners. This series consists of releases, vouchers, receipts, title searches, parcel maps, and resolutions authorizing commutations to claimants and owners for rights to bridges built over the Erie and other branch canals. Information includes name and residence of landowner; parcel description; sum paid by the state; and landowner signature.

These survey maps were made for landholders, for partitioning of land, and for disposition of as yet unappropriated lands. Most maps depict areas of eastern upstate New York; some show lands bordering on or within Vermont. The maps generally provide: name, location, or number of the town, tract, patent, or Indian reservation surveyed; lot boundaries and dimensions; lot numbers; names of landholders (sometimes); waterways; and the number of acres in area surveyed (sometimes).
