Scope and Content Note
This series consists of copies of mortgages. Court rules required the Master involved in the sale of mortgaged property to file a copy of the mortgage with the Register, Assistant, or clerk of the court.
Each mortgage contains the names of the parties to the mortgage and witnesses; the time, date, and county in which the mortgage was originally recorded; the date it was filed with the Register; the specifics of the mortgage agreement including the amount of money involved and a description of the land mortgaged; and a signed statement by the Master that the mortgage was executed.
There is one map attached to one of the mortgages in the series, showing lots of land (numbers 7, 15, 16, 23, and 24) as described in the affixed indenture. The map shows boundaries of the lots, roads and streets, lot dimensions (in feet), and the location of several dwellings on the lots. The map is hand-drawn in ink and measures 32 x 15 cm.
