- The Estates Tax Processing Unit deals with the payment of taxes against the transfer of property from the estates of decedents. Records include last wills and testaments; real property appraisals and photographs; correspondence; trust deeds; estate inventories; and other documents pertaining to the transfer of estates and payment of taxes on estates. Because most decedents established life trusts to dispose of their estates, the files often include wealthy citizens such as Astor, Morgan, Carnegie, and Rockefeller.

- The Commissioners of the Canal Fund were given charge of all financial operations of the canal system. These records are abstracts or summaries of audited accounts for expenditures on canals, including accounts with Canal Commissioners. Entries include contract or voucher number, name of payee, amount, and occasionally a brief note of purpose of the expenditure. Volume 2 includes accounts for the enlargement of the Erie Canal (1835-1840).

- This series consists of vouchers documenting sale of lands by the state. For the most part, monies raised by these sales were then deposited into either the state's general or school funds. The top half of the form was completed the Surveyor General's Office and normally provides the date of the transaction, a description of the lands sold, and the amount. The bottom half of the form was completed the State Treasurer's Office, signed by a State Treasurer Official and indicates from whom the funds were received, the amount, and date.

- The series contains records documenting the transfer, allocation, and accounting of expenditures by staff of the Division of the Budget. Capital certificates (1976-1986) are copies of letters advising the director of the Division of the Budget, Bureau of Accounts, of budget transfer certificates issued by the state comptroller. The certificates document allocations and transfers of funds (designated appropriations) to supplement agency project funds, thus qualifying for reimbursement from specified bond funds. The transfer certificates (1966-1985) are copies of certificates of transfer and allocation from the director of the Division of the Budget accounting for amounts transferred and allocated from capital construction fund appropriations projects designated to supplement other specific appropriations.
