Scope and Content Note
These vouchers were submitted by the Surveyor General and beginning in 1846 by the State Engineer and Surveyor to the State Treasurer to document the sale of lands by the state. For the most part, monies raised by these sales were then deposited into either the state's general or school funds. The earlier vouchers are entirely handwritten while those dating from approximately 1824 onward consist of pre-printed forms that contain two parts. The top half of the form was completed the Surveyor General's Office and normally provides the date of the transaction, a description of the lands sold, and the amount. The bottom half of the form was completed the State Treasurer's Office and it indicates from whom the funds were received, the amount, and the date. This portion is also signed by a State Treasurer Official. The voucher was then returned to the Surveyor General where it was filed.
Custodial History
This accession resulted from a project by State Archives staff in 2005 to integrate or describe strayed or unidentified records. These records were originally transferred to the State Archives by the Department of Transportation's Division of Waterways Maintenance on March 29, 1983. Somehow they became alienated and were not located and identified until June 2005.
