- Legislation passed in 1864 appointed a board mandated "to receive proof, ascertain and determine what regiments of the uniformed militia or National Guard have lost, worn out or destroyed their uniforms in the service of the United States." These minutes record the board's resolutions, procedures adopted as to the filing of claims, descriptions of claims submitted by regiments, abstracts of claims audited and allowed, abstracts of claims audited and allowed to clothing manufacturers for uniforms, and descriptions of board expenses.

Many of these claims contain questionnaires mailed by the Paymaster General's Office to claimants and statements of service sent from the United States War Department. Both of these forms provide information on a veteran's military record such as: name; rank; company; regiment; date of enlistment; date of discharge; and other information.

- This series consists of miscellaneous claims, correspondence, vouchers, and receipts received and audited by the Auditing Board. A law of 1862 appointed the Inspector General, Judge Advocate General and Quartermaster General to constitute an auditing board to examine claims "incurred in the organization, pay, equipment, quartering, subsistence and other proper expenses of troops raised... for the service of the United States...and which...have not hitherto been allowed and paid."

Claims were to be paid only if neither the individual nor his regiment or company received compensation for the items claimed, which had to be originally provided at his own expense.

- This series consists of two bound volumes compiled by Medical agents assigned to the Washington office of the New York Military Agency. The registers date between February, 1865 and September, 1866. Volume one relates mainly to the processing of soldiers' claims for back pay, invalid pensions, or other monetary concerns. Volume two records claims of soldiers in hospitals applying for discharges, transfers, or furloughs.

- This volume records names of United States Colored Troops who filed claims against the United States for back pay and bounties for services during the Civil War. Some entries provide the authorization by which the claimant was discharged and a notation whether the claim was settled or rejected. If the claim was settled, the amount is usually provided.

The volume appears to be a register of bounty claims which for the most part had not yet been paid, and only includes claims of men who served in the 106th through 156th volunteer infantry regiments.
