Scope and Content Note
This series consists of correspondence and newspaper clippings concerning former Commissary General Henry Storms (1842-1848) and his efforts to obtain compensation for payments due him as Commissary General for supplies of arms and military stores and accoutrements to arsenals, members of the militia and brigades, and for services as agent for settling the demands of this state against the United States.
This records series consists of Storms' correspondence to the Adjutant General's Office and newspaper clippings he apparently submitted to support his argument. In 1871 the State Legislature authorized the Adjutant General, the Comptroller and the Attorney General to make an immediate and fair examination of all charges, accounts and payments made to and by him, and to award to him whatever amount they shall find to be equitably due. To implement this mandate the State Legislature appropriated $10,000.
