- The year 1959 marked the 175th anniversary of the 1784 establishment of the New York State Board of Regents. This series consists of a proclamation by Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller designating May 1, 1959 as "Board of Regents Day" and concurrent resolution of the Senate and Assembly memorializing 1794 [sic] in the educational history of the state.

- This series consists of two guest books or registers documenting visitors and guests of the Regents. Earliest entries include a calligraphy document, photograph of the official procession on the occasion of the dedication of the State Education Building, 1912, and names of guests attending convocations of the University of the State of New York. The second volume documents individuals and small groups of visitors to the Regents on miscellaneous occasions as well as to convocations.

- This series consists of reports to the Board of Regents from the New York City Board of Education recommending amendment of its by-laws with reference to salaries of: principals of parental schools, teachers, substitutes of industrial subjects in trade schools for girls, principals of junior high schools, and schools for the deaf and crippled. Also included is one printed copy of minutes of a special meeting of the board.

- This series consists of the two election certificates of Andrew S. Draper as the first Commissioner of Education. The Unification Act of 1904 creating the State Education Department, and f the Education Law of 1909 specified that the Commissioner be elected by the legislature until 1910; subsequently the Board of Regents would appoint the Commissioner. The 1904 certificate was certified by the Secretary of State; the 1910 certificate was certified by the Board of Regents.

- This series consists of the correspondence and working files of the staff of Study 7, the Study of the State Education Department, conducted by the Regents' Inquiry into the Character and Cost of Public Education. Study 7 produced separate reports for each division or bureau in the Education Department. The series includes working files for each of the reports on State Education Department divisions and bureaus prepared by the Study 7 staff. These working files include drafts and file copies of Study 7 reports, notes, maps, memoranda, clippings, correspondence, and copies of publications relating to the division or bureau under study.

- This series contains receipted invoices for expenses of the Board of Regents. Most items billed are for books, supplies, and labor for the New York State Library for which the Regents were appointed Trustees in 1844. Some invoices are for expenses such as staff travel costs to the Regents' annual meetings and to visits to New York colleges. Some volumes are burned and fragile.

- These annual reports from academies, high schools, and academic departments of union free schools provide statistics on operations and programs and were collected to assist the Regents in supervising educational institutions in the State. The reports provide information on the school's finances; property; organization of departments; name, age, education, and teaching experience of teachers; name and age of all students, with names of textbooks read or subjects taken; curriculum and texts used; frequency of composition and declamation by students; total number of students; tuition and board rates; free instruction provided; and length of school terms and vacations.

Summary
- This series consists of six provisional charters and one absolute charter of former educational corporations in New York State. The charters are signed and sealed copies, mounted on cardboard, which had been given to educational institutions by the Board of Regents upon incorporation. The Board of Regents preferred that educational corporations surrender their charters at the time that they ceased to exist, although many institutions clearly did not do so.

- Reports of meteorological observations made at academies

Summary
- This series consists of very detailed reports of daily weather observations made at several academies around the state. The Board of Regents initiated a program of weather observations in 1825 which was continued by the Smithsonian after 1850. Daily reports as well as monthly and annual summaries include location, observer, temperature; wind direction, weather conditions, precipitation amount, and remarks (heavy thunder, aurora borealis, etc.). Post 1850 reports also include barometric pressure, wind force and direction; cloudiness; and humidity level.
