- This series contains lists of persons upon whom real and/or personal property taxes were levied in response to State tax legislation passed in 1779, 1786, 1787, and 1788. All of the tax lists in the series pertain to districts within Albany County. Lists vary slightly in format from year to year and even within the same year. All, however, feature the names of persons taxed in each district, in no discernible order, and the total amount of taxes owed by each person.

Canal toll receipts and salt duties are entered as debit and corresponding deposits in the Ontario, Geneva, Rochester, Utica, Ontario, Mohawk, Waterford Branch, Troy, and Mechanic's and Farmer's Banks are entered as credit. Monthly and annual totals are included.

- These records document the Canal Board's responsibilities for hearing damage claims and appeals, directing special repairs, administering disputed contracts, and other canal-related administrative matters. The series also contains appeals from decisions of the Board of Appraisers, Canal Appraisers, and Board of Claims. The Canal Board's decision regarding these appeals was considered final. The series consists mostly of filed petitions and appeals to the Board along with minutes of hearings, testimony, correspondence, and other accompanying documentation.

- The bulk of the series consists of cancelled checks drawn on the National Commercial Bank between 1895 and 1900. In addition is a smaller amount of cancelled checks issued by the State Treasurer (1879-1880, 1895) and drawn on various banks. Each of these bears check and warrant numbers, amount, name of payee, bank drawn on, signatures of the Treasurer and Auditor, and endorsements.

The abandonment accounts include date and place of abandonment as well as name of child and birthdate. The records suffered severe burn damage so writing is often obscured and pages are incomplete.
