Scope and Content Note
This series consists of two disbound journals in which the State Treasurer recorded the state's daily financial receipts and expenditures. Given the date span of the series, many of the recorded transactions document Revolutionary War activities of the new state government and its citizens. Transactions document payments to regimental and company commanders; financial support of delegates to the Continental Congress; payments to citizens who provided food, clothing, supplies, or equipment for military units; payments to express riders; payments to citizens for transporting supplies by land or by sea; payments to citizens for recruiting soldiers to serve in military units; and payments to individuals who served on various state committees or in other public roles.
Treasurer's Journal Vol. 1 corresponds to the Treasurer's ledger of financial transactions found in Series A3203. The major difference between the two volumes is that transactions appear in chronological order in the journal volume, whereas entries are grouped according to account in the ledger volume.
