Summary
- These disbound volumes contain photographs and lithographs of state charitable institutions such as asylums, hospitals, dispensaries and orphanages. Images are mostly of building exterior views, with occasional floor plans and interior views. Most are captioned with the name and location of the institution. These photographs may have been used in reports required by the State Legislature for the Board of Charities to provide recommendations for improvements to charitable institutions in 1867 and 1873.

Summary
- The examination forms in this series constitute part of an effort to compile statistics regarding the causes of dependency on public charities. Forms document the personal and family history of each dependent, as well as past history of dependency, existing causes of dependency, and future prospects for self-sufficiency. In addition each form includes: name; age; birthplace; marital status; if temperate; occupation; family background; and general remarks on health, behavior, and habits.

Summary
- The Commissioners of Public Charities requested information about every non-institutionalized insane or retarded person to determine what provisions the state should make for their care and to plan appropriate legislation. Forms provide information regarding background and condition of mentally ill or retarded persons not currently under state care: name; sex; age; birth county; marital status; occupation; year disability began; if recovered, living independently, or died during the year; and remarks on the diagnosis and severity of the condition.

- This series consists of reports submitted by private dispensaries to the Board of State Commissioners of Public Charities containing information on the institution's history, objectives, facilities, management, finances, and on the number of patients treated since opening and during the previous year. Each annual report contains financial information on the value of real and personal property, investments, indebtedness, receipts, expenditures, and cash on hand and statistical information on patients treated, persons vaccinated, prescriptions made, home visits, and home treatments.
