- This series consists of reports submitted by private dispensaries to the Board of State Commissioners of Public Charities containing information on the institution's history, objectives, facilities, management, finances, and on the number of patients treated since opening and during the previous year. Scope and Content Note
These reports were submitted to the Board by dispensaries, which were privately operated out-patient medical clinics serving the poor.
The 1869 reports were submitted to the Board of State Commissioners of Public Charities. These reports contain information on the institution's history and objectives, on its facilities, management, and finances, and on the number of patients treated since opening and during the previous year. Beginning in 1873, reports were submitted annually to the Board of Charities. Each annual report contains financial information on the value of real and personal property, investments, indebtedness, receipts and expenditures, and cash on hand. The annual reports also contain statistical information on the number on patients treated, persons vaccinated, prescriptions made, home visits, and home treatments.
