This series contains accounts of expenses of overseers of the poor for the maintenance of children of slaves. The accounts include the name of the town and county; names of overseers of the poor; name of master; name and birth date of child; time period for which child was maintained; amount spent and date.

This series provides summary information on cancellation of tax sales held to sell lands for unpaid taxes. While tax-sales for as early as 1800 are referred to, and a few cancellations are included for as late as 1946, the cancellations generally date from 1818-circa 1930. Usual causes for cancellation include errors in tax assessment, mistakes in payment records before the tax-sale, and redemption payments made after the tax-sale was completed.

Commissioners of the Land Office examined and settled claims against loyalists' lands confiscated and sold by the commissioners of forfeitures. Most claims were based on erroneous sales of land not subject to forfeiture, or the dower rights of widows of loyalists. These minutes locate and describe the bounds of the property in question; recite the substance of the claim; and state the commissioners' decision and award.

These records document the Canal Board's responsibilities for hearing damage claims and appeals, directing special repairs, administering disputed contracts, and other canal-related administrative matters. The series also contains appeals from decisions of the Board of Appraisers, Canal Appraisers, and Board of Claims. The Canal Board's decision regarding these appeals was considered final. The series consists mostly of filed petitions and appeals to the Board along with minutes of hearings, testimony, correspondence, and other accompanying documentation.

This is a map of survey lines for a 6.7 mile extension of the Genesee Valley Canal from Olean to Mill Grove Pond. Authorized in 1857 and brought into use in August 1859, the map includes names of villages; property owners along the proposed extension route; significant buildings; locks; tollgates; survey stations; topographic shadings; woodland areas; and bodies of water.
