Administrative History
The position of Executive Assistant was added to the Commissioner's staff in 1945 and the first occupant of the position was appointed by the Board of Regents.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of several different files maintained by Executive Assistant to the Commissioner Allan P. Bradley (1960-1975), each of which constitutes a subseries. The subseries are described below:
Engagement File, 1961-1965. Mostly correspondence relating to Dr. Bradley's professional appearances at conferences, symposia, seminars, and educational organization meetings. Arranged chronologically by date of engagement and thereunder in reverse chronological order.
Legislation File, 1965-1972. Correspondence with state legislators and memoranda about pending education-related legislation and legislators' constituent inquiries. Arranged loosely by year or span of years and thereunder alphabetically by name of legislator.
Constitutional Convention File, 1967. Memoranda, clippings, pamphlets, and copies of official propositions put before the Convention which pertain to education-related propositions and their progress in the Convention. Arranged loosely by type of record or subject; copies of propositions are arranged numerically.
Day File, 1972-1975. Carbons of outgoing correspondence to state legislators, state administrators, and local school officials dealing with a variety of subjects including state educational programs and legislation. Arranged in reverse chronological order by date sent.
Paid Travel Vouchers, 1968-1970. Arranged in reverse chronological order.
Cabinet Files, 1961-1964, 1967. Agenda, memoranda, and reports regarding topics discussed at Department Cabinet meetings. Arranged in rough chronological order.
Budget Files, 1963-1966. Memoranda and reports relating to budget formation. Arranged chronologically by budget year.
Annual Staff Conference Files, 1960-1966. Correspondence, memoranda, and reports pertaining to planning for and program of the annual Department staff conference held each June. Includes a copy of the printed proceedings of the conference. Arranged chronologically by year.
General Subject Files, 1960-1975. Correspondence, memoranda, reports, pamphlets, and clippings dealing with many subjects including legislation, budget formulation, and the Executive Assistant's professional engagements. Unarranged.
