- This series records deaths of residents at the New York State Asylum for Idiots (1851-1890), later known as the Syracuse State Institution for Feeble-Minded Children (1891-1895). Basic information includes number, name, age, sex, date admitted, and date of death. Following are more detailed narratives on "description of case" (physical characteristics, mental development), "history of case" (medical), "causes of death," and "post-mortem appearance." When no autopsy was performed, the latter category typically includes brief information on disposition of the body.

In some instances, remarks such as "sent to hospital" or reduced "to 3rd grade," (loss of privileges and temporary ineligibility for parole) are recorded.

Volume one records all incoming correspondence received by Governor Edwin D. Morgan between June 4, 1862 and August 25, 1862. Volume two records correspondence received by the governor's office from March 28, 1865 through October 17, 1870. The majority of the correspondence pertains to recommendations for promotion of officers; requests for transfers, passes, commissions, etc.; resignations; discharges; and other routing administrative matters.

- These volumes list information about persons to whom reformatory inmates were bound out. Information includes master's name and address; inmate's number; and date of indenture agreement. In addition the first volume (1825-1845) lists the master's occupation, the second volume (1860-1873) lists the inmate's name, and the third volume (1869-1903) lists the inmate's name and a reference to the master's prior experience with indentured inmates.
