Scope and Content Note
Records of incarcerated individuals who were discharged after their sentences were "commuted," based on an 1889 law that allowed those who had served their minimum sentence to apply for conditional release.
The first volume lists name; county; crime; term; date of sentence; date received at prison; shop incarcerated individual worked in; date of discharge; and remarks. In addition, the last three volumes list court, judge, and commutation earned, and the last two volumes list the prison shop they worked in.
