- The temporary state commission on Postwar Public Works Planning was created to oversee the progress of such state projects as railroad grade crossing eliminations, highways buildings and public housing projects, and to order the preparation of plans and specifications for those state projects. - This series consists of approximately 1000 shop drawings, which were used in conjunction with individual Barge Canal contracts to produce detailed specifications. The maps are primarily on linen and contain a great level of detail; from these plans contractors and manufacturers were able to fulfill specific terms of contracts. Included are shop drawings for the components of bridges, locks, gates, dams, winch cars, and other canal mechanisms. Also included in this series are shop drawings for four maintenance contracts.

- The State Board of Equalization and Assessment used these maps indicating flooded areas as reference sources in their inspection of, and determination of tax abatement or state assistance for, flood-damaged areas resulting from the hurricane. In addition to noting flooded areas, the maps show land contours, waterways, and a few man-made features such as schools, hospitals, roads, and railroads. Annotations on the maps indicate specific flooding problems such as "water over railroad bridge."
