- In 1950, a survey was conducted of inactive records filed with the Department of Audit and Control with only a 5 per cent sample preserved. Historical records from the sample were inadvertently taken for disposal to Quebec, Canada; about one-third of which were recovered. This series consists of inventory reports; correspondence; articles and other materials documenting this survey and the resulting disposition of those records. Most material pertains to records recovery activities.

- The volume includes records of payments made by the state treasurer for the maintenance of the children of slaves, a partial index (by name of city, village, or town) to an unidentified set of records, and records apparently dealing with prison construction work. The abandonment accounts include date and place of abandonment as well as name of child and birthdate. The records suffered severe burn damage so writing is often obscured and pages are incomplete.

- This series consists of lists of paid, volunteer, and "honorary" firefighters attached to hose companies, steamer companies, and fire departments throughout New York State. Lists may provide local reports on residency requirements for firefighters. Transcribed totals for each county were apparently routinely reported. Lists include the name of Fire Company; its county; names and addresses of individual firefighters; and total personnel for the company. Typically the fire chief and assistant(s) are designated.
