- This series compiled by the State Engineer and Surveyor documents the appraisal, surveying, purchase, and sale of lands within the state. Records include land tract sales, land appraisals, surveys and descriptions of tracts, reports (such as land boundaries and state canals); correspondence (including about oyster lands), field notes and maps, leases and court records. Many records deal with boundary lines between New York State and the neighboring states and between various towns within the state.

- The commission compiled the information in these files to further its investigation into violations of ethical or legal standards of conduct by public officials and employees. Informants wrote to the commission making allegations against individuals and organizations. These allegations included involvement in criminal activity; conflict of interest; official misconduct; obstruction of justice; drug abuse; no-show employment; nepotism; election fraud; and patronage. Evidence supplied by informants ranged from well-documented allegations to totally unsupported innuendo.

Files include hearing transcripts, motions, intermediate rulings, proposed findings and exceptions, and orders rendered. Series also contains index files that include summary of proceedings, findings of fact, and transcripts for every case that is heard by the judges.
