Court rules required that common orders issued by the Chancellor be entered by the Register in separate books. - This series is an index by name of complainant to the enrolled decrees in Series J0065, New York State Court of Chancery Decrees and Papers Before 1800, 1684-1800. Each entry in this volume contains the name of complainant and defendant along with a file number. The majority of the decrees indexed were issued between 1787 and 1799. The volume does not index final orders in non-adversarial cases commenced by petition. Nor does it index other filed parchments and papers found in series J0065.

While this series includes some bail pieces for Albany and Utica, the bulk are found in related series J0096 and J0098.

- This series consists of documents constituting the whole proceedings for a case seeking repeal of a letters patent or dissolution of articles of incorporation. Information includes the cases' history, the defendant's defense, statements of facts, actions taken by, and the final judgment of the court. Documents include summonses; plaintiff's complaint; the defendant's answer; court orders; affidavits; and judgment. Each record contains the name of the case, name and location of the court, presiding judge and filing date.

Many of the actions involve promissory notes given by banking corporations, but there are also cases involving railroads, churches, schools, and manufacturing and insurance companies.

- The special bail piece is a memorandum filed with the court stating that the defendant has been delivered to bail. It gives the names of the defendant and plaintiff; the name, occupation or rank, and residence of the bail (two persons are named, but generally one is fictitious--"John Doe" or "Richard Roe"); and the type of common law action. There are few bail pieces after 1831 because of the liberalization of bail requirements by the Revised Statutes of 1829 and because bail pieces were now customarily included in the judgment rolls.

Separate Supreme Court files include affidavits, orders, executions, lunacy proceedings, infancy proceedings, and committee reports. Separate County Court files include orders and affidavits. Criminal court records include indictment files and records of convictions in town and village justice's courts. Other records include deeds, notary public appointments, lis pendens, coroner's inquisitions, and county treasurer's tax assessment rolls for the towns in Lewis County.

Occasionally an entry contains a remark about the nature or disposition of a case. Series also includes is a list of maps that relate to land disputes heard in various pre- and post-1847 courts. Some of the maps relate to specific court cases but most cannot convincingly be linked to a particular case.

- This collection contains writs of error filed by the clerk of the Supreme Court of Judicature in New York City. The writ required the judge of a trial court to return a transcript of a judgment and related proceedings to the Supreme Court for review and determination. The writ alleges that "manifest error" occurred during pleading or trial. About two-thirds of this series consists of writs of error unaccompanied by transcripts, while the remainder of the series includes both the writ and the transcript of the judgment and proceedings in the trial court.
