- The documents in this series are brief notices of appointment of local agents by attorneys to act for them in all matters in the Supreme Court of Judicature. On the dorso of each one are found the names of the attorney and his local agent and the filing date. Appointment of legal agents was authorized by rules of the court first adopted in January Term 1799, and August Term 1809.

- These volumes provide a central record of appointments made and other actions taken by the governor. The volumes were compiled to provide the governor's staff with more organized access to this information. These records were kept pursuant to Laws of 1858, Chapter 64, which required the governor to record in books all applications made to him for appointments, pardons, commutations of sentences, or other gubernatorial actions, and to keep on file the original documentation relating to each application.

Smith Fellows Program in 1969 to give professionals and businesspersons from outside State government an opportunity to serve for one year in key State posts. - This series consists of appointments of agents, filed by solicitors, with the Clerk of the 2nd Chancery Circuit. Each appointment contains the name of the agent, date of appointment, place of residence, and the signature of the appointing solicitor. The rule of the court required every solicitor in chancery to appoint in writing an agent in every city or town where the Register, Assistant Register, and Chancery Circuit Clerks maintained offices.
