Summary
This series contains drafts or typescripts by or for the state historian apparently considered for publication. Included is a preface and four articles intended as an introduction to published papers of military officer and Indian negotiator Sir William Johnson. The unused articles are by James Austen Holden, Robert W. Chambers, Wolcott W. Ellsworth, and Richard E. Day. Also included are two versions of a George Clinton biography, and lists of records in the British Public Record Office and British Museum.

This series consists of a variety of documents from the Supreme Courts of Judicature at Albany, Geneva, and Utica. Included are motions; briefs; pleadings; writs of venire; returns of writs of error, certiorari, and commission; appointments of guardians; conditional testimony; cognovits; draft rules; affidavits; writs of commission; reports of commissioners of appraisal regarding land; and writs of satisfaction, ejectment, and eases. It contains depositions regarding the last will, the business and official records, and the property of Sir William Johnson.

Summary
The Commissioners of Indian Affairs conducted negotiations and exchanged communications with the Five Nations as agents of the Governor of New York. The records in this series include minutes of resolutions and other actions; summaries of Indian affairs, particularly during wartime; detailed proceedings of formal conferences and informal meetings with nations or groups of chiefs; copies or summaries of letters to the Governor, other officials, and Indian nations; instructions for Indian agents and interpreters; and a few proclamations.

This series consists of photostatic copies of records pertaining to Indian affairs in Colonial New York that are in the custody of the National Archives of Canada. Many of the reproductions were published in The Papers of Sir William Johnson but a sizeable number of them remain unpublished.
