This series contains correspondence and memorandums between zoologists or assistant zoologists and other scientists, collectors, specimen suppliers, private citizens, and the State Museum Director. Early correspondence primarily pertains to the zoology collections. Later subjects include preparation of a checklist of New York birds ("Ornithological Letters"); acquisition of museum specimens; field collection or observation activities; research projects; preparation of scientific papers; information exchange; preparation of zoological exhibits; and questions about characteristics and life cycles of animals.
