Outgoing correspondence relating to the State Teachers' Library

Summary
This bound volume contains press copies of letters sent by the Superintendent of Public Instruction to book publishers. The letters relate to the acquisition of books for the State Teachers' Library and many include lists of books accepted or refused for the Library. The State Teachers' Library was established in 1895 (Chapter 546) in the Department of Public Instruction to loan books by mail to teachers located in rural parts of the state.

This series consists of affidavits submitted by teachers in application for replacement of state teaching certificates that were lost or destroyed. Most affidavits are on standardized forms providing date and location of completion of work under the uniform system of examination, date and location in which teaching certificate was issued, the grade of the certificate, and date and manner in which the original certificate was lost or destroyed.

This series contains examination results for successful candidates for first, second, and third grade teacher's certificates, and a record of vocal music certificates issued. First, second, and third grade certificate reports include the date and place of examination; candidate's name; certificate number; and scores in examination subjects such as arithmetic, geography, penmanship, current topics, and history. Vocal music certificates include name; address; age; years of teaching experience; and certificate number.
