- This series consists of a record of the inmate population kept by the principal keeper. Daily entries include total inmates, and, for earlier years only, the number received and discharged. Also included are brief notes on events at the prison each day, including the principal keeper's inspection visits, disciplinary incidents, escapes, deaths, construction and repairs, etc. Later entries list the names of men received or discharged.

- This series includes files for six Clinton Prison inmates who escaped incarceration during the period 1914-1927. The files document attempts by the prison administration to notify law enforcement agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the escapes and to monitor attempts to apprehend the fugitives.

- These photographs of Clinton Prison, mostly from 1932-1945, depict buildings and facilities, such as prison shop; barber shop; kitchen; mess hall; reservoir; athletic facilities; and hospitals. Also depicted are locations of accidents, assaults, suicides, and other special occurrences. Also included are prisoner art, prisoner identification documents, and aerial views circa 1969. There is an album of 1930s prison construction photographs and documents relating to prison administration.

After about 1900, the entries for admissions and discharges do not refer to individual inmates.

- This typescript volume instructs inmates working as clerks in their duties and responsibilities. General instructions urge courtesy, obedience, discretion, etc. Specific instructions regarding filling out forms, carrying messages, updating records, and other duties instruct clerks working for: the Assistant Superintendent; the Military Instructor; the Dentist; the Oculist; and the Night Count (recording the nightly inmate census).

- This volume, kept for the auditing and accounting purposes of the New York House of Refuge, documents the receipts and disbursements of the Industrial Department. Following the legislative prohibition of prison contract labor, the institution in 1888 effected a major reorganization and expansion of industrial and mechanical trades education. This volume records payments made by the Department and receipts generated by its industries.

- These volumes, kept for the auditing purposes of the New York House of Refuge's Finance Committee and Executive Committee, document the expenses incurred by the Industrial Department. Following the legislative prohibition of prison contract labor, the institution in 1888 effected a major reorganization and expansion of industrial and mechanical trades education. Payments were made to payroll, the Industrial Education Association, and other organizations and private individuals; however, except in the case of payroll, there is no indication of what the payments were for.

- The Visiting Agent visited the homes of new inmates and paroled inmates' employer to ensure appropriate placement. Information in the daily reports includes name and number of parolee visited; city and/or home address of parolee; relatives' comments on parolee's progress; name and location of employer and employer's comments concerning parolee and descriptions of parolee crimes or misbehavior. Some entries provide information on parole agent activities such as taking inmates to court; helping find employment; and arrests while on parole visits.

- This series documents expenses of the House of Refuge and were kept for the Executive Committee monthly audit of bills. Bills for each month included the following information: bill number; payee name; date and amount of bill; and total amount of bills for the month. Following the audit, a committee member signed an endorsement under the list of bills stating that they have been audited and a warrant issued for payment of the bills (no endorsements after August 1925).
