Summary
- This series consists of record cards which summarize the background and prison disciplinary record of inmates of Clinton Correctional Facility (known earlier as Clinton Prison). Most cards include a front-facing and profile photograph of the inmate. Inmate numbers extend from 12879 (inmate received in 1914) to 39999 (inmate received in 1964), with gaps. These records were maintained pursuant to a law of 1929 requiring a daily record to be kept of punishments inflicted on prisoners and of complaints by prisoners.

Later entries record daily population of first, second, third, and fourth offenders, both white and "colored." Also included are notes on the weather; inmates transferred, paroled, or discharged; meetings of the Board of Parole; prison assemblies; building repairs and construction; disciplinary action against employees; escapes and captures; number attending church services; and baseball game scores.

- This series consists of transcripts of one inmate's incoming correspondence. Since the institution's superintendent held the originals; it is unlikely that the inmate received the letters. The letters which discuss his and other youths' activities may have been used to help make a parole decision and/or to monitor the inmate's associations once on parole. Subjects include crimes committed or planned and/or arrests of and legal proceedings against youths; parties; drinking; sexual encounters and the inmate's chances of being released.

Summary
- These volumes contain contractual agreements between the reformatory managers, inmates, and employers for indentured labor or apprenticeships. Contracts specified the employer must teach a trade, literacy and arithmetic; provide food, clothing, shelter, and, end of the apprenticeship terms. Inmates could not be hired out and the agreement could be not canceled without reformatory's consent. Contracts include agreement date; master's name, address, and occupation; inmate's name, age, case number; the type of trade to be taught; and apprenticeship duration.

- The New York House of Refuge was the first juvenile reformatory in the United States. During its existence from 1825 to 1935, the institution implemented many innovative programs for the detention, education, and rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents.
