This series contains completed forms, control sheets, and some correspondence collected for preparation of a Historical Album of New York State. The album was intended to contain data and photographs of every significant historic site in the state and data on important New York natives and residents. The project was a cooperative effort between the Works Progress Administration's (WPA) New York State Writers' Project and the Division of Archives and History.

This series contains files relating to proposed publications of the New York State Federal Writers' Project (FWP). Included are files of projects undertaken at both statewide and local levels. Publications included travel and tourism guides to New York State and local communities; the New York State Almanac; the New York State Encyclopedia; and publications on such topics as health, wildlife, and agriculture.
These files document the placement, with State financial aid, of hundreds of bronze tablets commemorating sites of historical significance in the colonial, revolutionary, or state formative periods. The files include financial application, historical importance of site, structure, person, or event commemorated and citation of sources for this information; description and sketch or plan of marker; text of inscription; and location of marker. The series does not contain information on the thousands of iron roadside markers erected under the same legislative appropriation.

This series contains film negatives and photographic prints of historic sites, buildings, bridges, statues, monuments, and a few persons of statewide or local significance. It apparently contains interfiled photographs resulting from several projects to document historic sites in New York State. The projects included a Federally sponsored historic sites survey (circa 1936-1939); preliminary work on the Historical Album of New York State (1941-1942); and a resurvey of historic sites conducted by the Division of Archives and History (circa 1947-1949).

This series consists of photographs of observances of the 150th anniversary of the American Revolution held throughout the state. The photographs show reenactments of battles, plays, and other pageantry; pageant organizers, participants, and spectators; placement of historical markers; scenes of pageant locations; and include photographs of Charles A. Lindbergh. These observances or pageants depicted were part of the statewide celebration of the 150th anniversary of events in 1776 and 1777, authorized by the Legislature in 1926 and 1927.
