The records also document the governor's involvement in national politics, especially during the 1956 presidential election.

- This fragmentary series is comprised of documents removed from, or never filed into, other series of governors records. Much of the series consists of routine appointment records, including letters recommending or opposing appointments; letters of application for positions; letters tendering resignations from positions; and certificates of commission. - This series consists of daily appointment schedules for Governor Hugh Carey from the last month of his first term through the inauguration of his successor, Mario M. Cuomo, and copies of Governor W. Averell Harriman's daily schedules. Executive Chamber staff prepared these to help the governor and his staff track and prepare for each day's activities. Occasionally filed with the daily schedules are memorandums or briefing notes providing additional background information on the location or subject of meetings or other events.

- Executive Chamber staff maintained these records as a central file of photocopies of gubernatorial proclamations. The original proclamations were filed with the Secretary of State in accordance with legislation of 1892 and 1951 requiring all documents issued under the great seal of New York State to be filed with the secretary. Usually ceremonial in nature, the proclamations recognize important events, issues, or personal achievements by proclaiming a day, week, or month in the subject's honor.

- Thomas E. Dewey's governorship blended fiscal conservatism with a personal conviction that government bore a share of the responsibility for the welfare of the citizenry. During his tenure, New York's state university system was established and construction of the New York State Thruway was begun. These records also document post-war economic readjustment, sponsorship of social legislation, including the landmark 1945 "Law against Discrimination," and investigations of conditions in mental hospitals, including management and affairs of Creedmoor State Hospital.

- Charles Evans Hughes was elected to two terms as governor before resigning the office to accept a nomination to the United States Supreme Court. Among his accomplishments were securing passage of workmen's compensation legislation and the Moreland Act, and creating public service commissions with strong regulatory powers. This series consists of a bound volume and several files of correspondence, petitions, reports, and other materials compiled by the governor's office.
