- This series consists of investigation and interview files of the Special Commission on Attica (chaired by Robert B. McKay and known as the "McKay Commission"). The commission investigated the Attica Correctional Facility riot of 1971. Resulting records include personal interview sheets or transcripts; depositions and preliminary statements; copies of facility logs and other administrative records; lists of dead and wounded; draft commission reports; photographs; documents regarding negotiations with rioters; and documents confiscated from inmates.

The commission traced stock ownership, studied financial records, and questioned witnesses related to the operations and management of licensees and lessors. The files include correspondence; interviews; transcripts of intercepted telephone conversations; and police records. Investigation reports on stockholders provide names, place of birth, parents' names, marital status, and occupations.

Footage depicts inmates holding prison yard; State Police control center; hostages; arrival of observers and Black Panther Party chairman Bobby Seale; deployment of tear gas and arrival of armed law enforcement officers; retaking of facility; aerial footage following retaking of facility; and law enforcement officers compiling evidence. The series also includes video recordings of the first day of hearings of the Special Commission on Attica (McKay Commission).

- The Knapp Commission was charged with identifying "patterns of corruption" within the New York City Police Department and investigating administrative procedures and operations for dealing with corruption. Topics include specific types of criminal activity and on police involvement in them, relations between the police and citizens in black and Hispanic neighborhoods, and the work habits and culture of NYC police.
