The New York State Temporary Commission of Investigation was formed in 1958 under Chapter 989 of the laws of 1958. This chapter gave the Commission the duty and power to conduct investigations in connection with the execution and enforcement of state laws affecting organized crime and racketeering; the conduct of state and local public officers and employees; and any matter concerning the public peace, public safety and public justice.
