Summary
These conferences were held prior to the 1967 State Constitutional Convention to solicit suggestions for changes in the State Constitution's civil service provisions. This series consists of audio tapes, stenographer's notes, and typed transcripts of conferences held by the Civil Service Commission with agency heads, consultants, and representatives of the Civil Service Employees Association, Personnel Council, and the American Society for Public Administration. All transcripts and most tapes and notes are identified as to date of conference and organization represented.

New York State Civil Service Commission meeting minutes

Summary
This series contains the Civil Service Commission's official meeting minutes signed by its secretary. The Commission was set up "to regulate and improve the Civil Service of the State," and these minutes document their work toward that end. There are entries for all Commission meetings except those between 1944 and 1947, when only verbatim minutes were kept. Pre-1899 minutes are handwritten while all others are typewritten.

The hearing transcripts, reports and brief document the State Civil Service Commission's investigation of the New York City Civil Service Commission. State Commission on Extension of the Civil Service secretary's files

Summary
A twelve-member legislative Commission on Extension of the Civil Service was created in 1939 to study the problems of extending civil service to local governments. The Commission's investigation resulted in the "Fite Law" which provided for the administration of civil service law and rules in all of New York's civil divisions. The Secretary's files document the development of legislation on local civil service administration and the attitude of local officials towards civil service extension and information on local public employment.
