- This series indexes maps once maintained by the Region 2 Waterways Maintenance Office of the Department of Public Works. Maps and plans indexed included the first Erie Canal enlargement, the 1895 Improvement and the Erie Barge Canal, the Black River Canal, the Chenango Canal, the Northern and Southern Reservoirs, Oneida Lake, and the Old and New Oneida Lake Canals. In addition to notes and measurements, many of the field books contain inventories; reports and observations; sketches of various areas and building measurements; property valuations; and deed descriptions.

- This series consists of drawings, blueprints, plans, diagrams, tracings, and maps relating primarily to the state's canal system. Virtually all the state's canals are represented, but the series is particularly strong with respect to the Barge Canal system. Also included is a map of the Genesee Valley Canal Extension from Olean to Mill Grove Pond apparently created by William Rumble from an earlier David Vaughan map. Records are restricted due to severe fire and water damage.

- This series was created by the Canal Corporation of the Thruway Authority to establish state property boundaries adjacent to the Northern and Southern Reservoir Systems. It consists primarily of maps and structure drawings of the Northern and Southern Reservoirs of the Barge Canal. Most maps relate to either the Northern or Southern Reservoir System in whole or part; some relate to the entire reservoir system, and others relate to feeders and other reservoirs.

- This series consists of a card file that indexes contracts, structures, and related appropriations for work on the Western Division of the Barge Canal. The file is arranged into eastern and western parts of the Western Division. Eastern section cards relate to many different contracts (numbers appear in the upper left corner of cards) and appear to be arranged by "general" and specific types of contracts. Western section cards relate primarily to contracts 40, 48, 76, 47A, 49, and 77, and index contracts for borings done in Wayne County, New York.

- This series consists of approximately 240 linen maps showing locations of channels, structures, appropriated lands, and terminals of the Erie, Champlain, Oswego, and Cayuga and Seneca Canals, as well as the location of old canals in relation to the Barge Canal System as improved under laws of 1903, 1909, and 1911. The improved canals would become the Barge Canal System. The maps contain information regarding individual structures and appropriated lands not found on other maps of canal lands.
