- This series consists of the charter from Charles II, King of England, granting land to his brother James, Duke of York. The charter gave James the authority to send an armed force to compel the Dutch surrender of the New Netherland province to the English. It grants territory that now comprises most of Maine, part of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and part of Pennsylvania to James and specifies details of governanceand management.

- This series consists of an unbound transcription of documents in Volume 25 of the New York Colonial Manuscripts, Administrative Records, 1675-1676. These transcriptions were made before the 1911 New York State Capitol building fire damaged or destroyed many volumes of the Colonial Manuscripts. Original documents from Volume 25 are found in Record Series A1894, New York Colonial Council Papers, 1664-1781.

- Commissioners from New York, New Jersey, and Nova Scotia held hearings to settle a Rhode Island-Massachusetts boundary dispute. Records of the commission's proceedings include: summaries of each party's argument; questions and testimony of surveyors, residents of the disputed areas, and other witnesses; and copies of documentary evidence produced by the parties, such as Indian treaties, acts of the Rhode Island General Assembly, and letters patent. The records were damaged in the 1911 State Capitol fire.

- The "Duke's Laws" are the first set of laws enacted in the colony of New York under English rule. This series consists of a manuscript copy of the "Duke's Laws" created by the office of the secretary of the Colony of New York for use as an official copy. The laws pertain to a wide variety of subjects such as criminal offenses, civil actions, probate, religion, servitude, law enforcement, and military service.

Summary
- The governor issued these warrants directing the attorney general to prepare letters patent. These patents transferred title to land from the colonial government to private owners whose application to purchase land had been approved following a survey. Each warrant contains governor's name; attorney general's name; size and boundaries of the land to be patented; and date of the warrant. These records sustained moderate to severe burn damage in the 1911 State Capitol fire.

- This series consists of writs of appeal, in Dutch, from judgments made by the courts of New Amsterdam, Oostdurp (Westchester), Heemsteede, New Amstel, Wiltwyck (in the Esopus), Flushing (on Long Island), and Fort Orange. Writs of appeal were granted by the Council of the Colony of New York in response to petitions, usually submitted by one party in a civil action. The records in this series also include summonses and writs of mandamus.
