Canaseraga Creek improvement records

Summary

The series consists of documents relating to the Canaseraga Creek improvement project begun in 1906. The Canaseraga Creek is an important tributary of the Genesee River. Heavy silt deposits and the irregular course of the creek inhibited free passage of water, resulting in severe annual flooding. The slow subsidence of flood waters on the flat land impaired cultivation and caused damage. The records document efforts to redress the situation posed by damage to the public health.

This series consists of registers maintained by the State Lunatic Asylum (later Utica State Hospital) for the purpose of recording patient admissions, discharges, and paroles. Information includes patient name, date of admission or discharge, and county of residence. Additional data varies by volume and may include: gender; age; marital status; occupation; education; religion; habits; residence; cause, duration and form of disorder; length of parole , to whom the patient was discharged or paroled. Records are restricted.

The series consists of twelve black and white photographs of service medals and brief textual summaries on marksmanship badges, describing their significance and history. The summaries were apparently copies from published Adjutant General's reports or other unidentified sources. The photographs may date from the 1940s and 1950s. Medals represented in the photographs are examples of those awarded to National Guardsmen, to veterans of the Mexican Punitive Campaign, and to survivors of Southern prison camps during the Civil War.

Typhoid fever case investigation files

This series consists of medical and circumstantial evidence collected by State Department of Health epidemiologists to determine the source and type of reported cases of typhoid fever, plus medical information on the course of the illness. Documentation includes a case investigation form detailing vital statistics; history of typhoid fever occurrence and vaccinations; antibiotic treatment; possible sources of exposure to and further spread of typhoid; household and visitor census; and laboratory specimen culturing results. Also included is a narrative case history. Records are restricted pursuant to state and federal laws.

This series consists of monthly meeting minutes held by the Boards of Visitors of the Albion State Training School and its predecessor institutions: Western Correctional Facility and Western Reformatory for Women. Also included is a list of inmates received and discharged; a census of inmates and infants and a count of inmates receiving dental and medical attention. The Commission on Local Government Efficiency and Competitiveness was charged with studying the structure and operations of New York local government; reducing costs and improving the effectiveness of local government operations; and reforming election laws and procedures.
