- This series consists of a draft version of a small amount of minutes of the legislative and executive sessions of the Council of the Colony of New York. The Council shared executive and legislative powers with the governor. Minutes include laws, orders, and resolutions concerning establishment and organization of courts; granting and settlement of land; regulation and construction of buildings, streets, and wharves; trade and commerce, including restrictions on exports; trade and relations with Indians; and levying of taxes.

- Books of general entries contain the office copies of documents issued by colonial governors Richard Nicolls, Francis Lovelace, and Sir Edmund Andros. They reveal the governors' efforts to enact the policies of the British monarchy, and provide insight into seventeenth century society, commerce, industry, agriculture, law, and land development. Documents include orders, warrants, instructions, and letters to local officials, as well as travel passes, commercial licenses, marriage licenses, and land records.

- This is a series of surveys of unappropriated state lands or, in a few cases, land being resold. Many volumes contain surveys of land in the New Military Tract, the Totton and Crossfield Purchase, or George Scriba's patent. Volumes generally provide survey notes; name of surveyor; name and/or number of township, tract, or lot; county; date survey was completed or filed; occasional rough maps; and/or valuations of lots.

Summary
- This series consists of the original engrossed (or final) letters patent and military patents, which were transcribed pursuant to Chapter 13 of the Laws of 1786. That law states that these volumes were "by various accidents so injured that a frequent Recourse to them may render them illegible." The transcriptions were inserted into the books of Letters Patent (Series 12943) and Military Patents (Series A0447). In addition to recorded patents, the first two volumes also contain records of confirmations of deeds dating prior to the English conquest of New Netherland in 1664, commissions and appointments of civil and military officers, naturalizations and denizations of non-British subjects, and a few Indian deeds.

The correspondence addresses matters relating to the defense, commercial interests, and prosperity of Dutch holdings in North America and the Caribbean.

- This series consists of minutes, in Dutch, documenting civil and criminal cases, and executive and legislative matters over which the Council of the Colony of New York had jurisdiction. The minutes constitute a record of such actions as appointments, proclamations, ordinances, charters, and opinions. Included in the records is the Flushing Remonstrance, which was written in 1657 by citizens of Flushing, Queens to protest a decree prohibiting Quakers from worshiping in New Netherland.
