- This series consists of documents relating to the naturalization of aliens by the Supreme Court of Judicature or by justices presiding at Circuit Courts. The documents, mostly from Albany County, include the declaration of intention to renounce allegiance to a foreign ruler or state and to become a citizen of the United States; and the petition for naturalization, stating the country of origin and length of residence in the U.S., and requesting to be admitted to citizenship.

- This fragmentary series contains bills of costs awarded to winning parties. Each bill contains a list of costs incurred by the plaintiff in the progress of civil action from the initial retaining fee and warrant of attorney to filing of the execution. Court rules specified the costs to be allowed in actions in Supreme Court. Costs taxed in each case were included in the final judgment award.

- This series consists of sworn affidavits by Revolutionary War veterans intending to apply for pensions. Each affidavit includes statements of the veteran's war service; a schedule of his real and personal property; applicant's age; residence; former military rank; and physical disability (if any). Such affidavits could be made in any court of record, but were most often made in the Court of Common Pleas, rather than the Supreme Court.

- The special bail piece is a memorandum filed with the court stating that the defendant has been delivered to bail. It gives the names of the defendant and plaintiff; name, occupation or rank, and residence of the bail (two persons are named, but generally one is fictitious--"John Doe" or "Richard Roe"); and type of common law action. There are relatively few bail pieces for the period 1831-1847 because of the liberalization of bail requirements by the Revised Statutes of 1829 and because bail pieces were then customarily included in the judgment rolls.

- These four small books list the names of attorneys who have appointed agents, the names of their agents, and dates of appointment. The books overlap in date and contents and contain many strikeouts. Agents were authorized to be appointed by rules of the court adopted in January term, 1799, and August term, 1809.

- This series consists of satisfaction pieces, which are an acknowledgment by a winning party that a judgment in his favor has been satisfied. The acknowledgment is signed by the winning party in a cause (or his attorney) and acknowledged before a judge or commissioner of deeds. The series includes a few powers of attorney and certificates of satisfaction by the clerk of the Supreme Court. The Albany satisfaction pieces after 1839 are missing.

- This series contains abstracts of attorneys' accounts with the clerk of the Supreme Court at Albany. To the left of each attorney's name is a consecutive number referring to account books which are no longer extant. In columns are entered balances due from the attorneys and occasional entries of payments. There are also notes of accounts sent to the county treasurers for collection and of notices sent to the attorneys reminding them of balances due.

- The recognizance roll is a record of the undertaking of bail, made before a justice of the Supreme Court of Judicature. The roll contains the same information as is found in the plaintiff's declaration, followed by a statement of the obligation of the bail. The recognizance roll was the formal record upon which a plaintiff could bring an action against the defendant's bail.

- This series consists of obligations binding a plaintiff (in cases heard by the Supreme Court of Judicature) or an appellant (in appealed cases heard by the Supreme Court or the Court of Errors) and his surety for payment of costs and damages if the decision of the court goes against him. An appellant in Supreme Court or the Court of Errors was required by legislation of 1829 to give bond. There are few bonds dating before 1823.

Summary
- This series contains documents pertaining to the surrender of a defendant and exoneration of his bail from liability for damages and costs awarded in a judgment. Bail might choose to render over their principal (i.e. the defendant) either before or after judgment, but it had to be done before return of writ of capias ad satisfaciendum, which commanded a sheriff to arrest and imprison a judgment debtor until the judgment was satisfied.
