- Most of the field notes in this series consist of observations of birds made in New York and New England. Notes include information on bird species, location where observed, bird activities, and weather conditions. Other volumes contain notes on plant species observed during field trips. The records include notes on field work conducted; reports on mineral resources and industries in New York State; reports on specific mines, quarries, wells, and mineral processing plants in New York State; and reports and notes on various geological formations.

They usually include title, date, bulletin number, plate number, and preparer.
