Scope and Content Note
This series includes subject and correspondence files relating to organizations outside of the State University system. Types of records include incoming and outgoing correspondence with the chancellor, memorandums, reports, presentations, faculty appointment letters, grievance cases, resumes, salary schedules, applications, newspaper clippings, publications, audits, meeting agendas and minutes, and strategic plans and progress reports. The records discuss new policies as well as the involvement of organizations in various meetings and activities. The newspaper clippings and publications give a look into what local and statewide events were influencing change within the SUNY schools. Correspondence directed to the chancellor kept him informed on the activities of the organizations outside of his dominion.
Chancellors represented include Alvin C. Eurich (1949-1952), Charles Garside (1952), William S. Carlson (1952-1958), Thomas H. Hamilton (1959-1963), J. Lawrence Murray (1963-1964), Samuel B. Gould (1964-1970), Ernest L. Boyer (1970-1977), James F. Kelly (1977-1978), Clifton R. Wharton, Jr. (1978-1987), Jerome B. Komisar (1987-1988), D. Bruce Johnstone (1988-1994), Joseph C. Burke (1994), Thomas A. Bartlett (1994-1996), John W. Ryan (1997-1999), and Robert L. King (2000-2005).
Among the organizations included in this series are the Association of American Colleges and Universities of the State of New York, Association of Governing Boards, Land-Grant Colleges and Universities, National Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, the Association of American Medical Colleges, Middle States Associations, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, New York State Education Department, and the State University Research Foundation. A number of colleges and universities are also represented in this series, as well as several consulting firms.
