Administrative History
The Sub-committee on Indian Affairs was created in 1970 to recommend revisions to the Indian law in New York State which had not been updated since 1909. The sub-committee met with the following Native American nations at reservations throughout New York State to discuss the needs of the people: Onondagas, Oneidas, Mohawks, St. Regis, Poospatuck, Shinnecock, Matinecock, Salamanca, Tuscarora, and Tonawanda.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of John Hudacs' records of the Sub-committee on Indian Affairs. Hudacs served as the Project Director of the sub-committee and personally went to several of the meetings to hear the concerns of the people. This series consists of hearing transcripts and subject files regarding Indian affairs from 1970-1972. It also includes correspondence, copies of reports, reel recordings of the meetings on the reservations, and background information on the services to Native Americans at that time.
