Scope and Content Note
The series consists of 3 x 5" cards that index attorneys admitted to the New York State bar. The cards contain varying amounts of data on admitted attorneys, and they constitute an admission roll administered by the Court of Apeals, which has jurisdiction to admit attorneys to practice in the state of New York.
The minimum information typically given on the cards includes the name under which the attorney was admitted and the place and date of the admission. Cards may also contain information on an attorney's education, clerkship, change of name, statement of full name (often as an "also registered as" note), disciplinary action taken (such as suspension, reinstatement, disbarment) and the date of the action and/or filing date of the disciplinary order.
In addition, cards for more recent admissions (ca. 1980s) may also show a date of oath (may be different from date of admission), place of residence, and a book number representing the volume in which admission papers or orders were filed with the court).
