Scope and Content Note
This series consists of reports of the ward service and patient environment (incidents or lack thereof) as reported by ward attendees during their shifts at the Rome Developmental Center and predecessor Rome State School. Earlier journals are narrative in format, include a great deal of anecdotal information describing daily activities, and also include alphabetical indexes of patients on the ward for the period. These indexes include each patient's name, diagnosed IQ, hospital number, weight, religion, work status, and age. The later volumes contain names of patients and ward attendants, shift dates and times, duties performed, incident descriptions, and, in later years, ward census data.
