Scope and Content Note
This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services, which was created in 2010, and one of its predecessor entities, the Office of Vocational and Educational Services for People with Disabilities (VESID). Researchers should note that prior to mid-2008, the VESID site could not be captured successfully.
B2178-08: This accretion consists of a copy of the website of the Office of Vocational and Educational Services for People with Disabilities (VESID) site produced on May 9, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the office's history, mission, and organizational structure and the vocational rehabilitation, independent living, special education for students with disabilities, and other services that it provided. Also present are forms for disputing VESID decisions, information for employers of people with disabilities, a listing of independent living centers in the state, information about the Pupils with Disabilities (PD) data system and data entry forms, and the text of state and federal laws concerning people with disabilities (2008).
Additional content includes resources relating to bilingual special education, children and parents of children with disabilities, and state schools and other services for people who are deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired. Publications and reports concerning special education, vocational rehabilitation, and independent living centers (2001-2008); the number of children receiving special education services (1996-2006); vocational rehabilitation policies; and the VESID State Plan (2008) are also included. Information about the State Rehabilitation Council includes a listing of council members (2007) and special education performance plans (2002-2007).
Researchers should note that this site was in the process of being revised at the time it was captured. As a result, the formatting, graphic elements, and navigational menus of some pages differs substantially from those of others.
B2178-11: This accretion contains a copy of the main Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACESS) site produced on January 14, 2011, shortly after Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It also includes a January 14, 2011 copy of the website of the former Office of Vocational and Educational Services for People with Disabilities (VESID), which was absorbed into ACESS in late 2010; several days after this copy was produced, all of the content on this site was incorporated into the main ACCES site and the VESID site was removed from the live Web.
